This is why we can't have nice things!

Did anyone else's mother always say "This is why we can't have nice things!"? Well, mine did. For those of you that don't know I am one of four. We were very busy kids and I remember this phrase being used VERY often. Yesterday, I became my mother.

Emma Kate asked if she could play tea party. I told her "yes" but we can't play tea party with water (water in the tea party started in Birmingham with the grandparents...it needs to stay in Birmingham with the grandparents). I went off to vacuum and thought nothing else of it (where would she get water?????) After vacuuming for a while I glanced up and saw EK playing tea party (WITH WATER) on my unsealed Z Gallerie coffee table! I knew I always wanted a very weather worn looking coffee table! Anyway, you just have to laugh because she was doing a very good job of pouring and then cleaning up her mess! I know that I am just beginning to use this phrase (my boy just started crawling) and that is what scares me the most. So, to all of you out there who don't have toddlers - "This is why we can't have nice things!"

absolutely hilarious...but i feel for you! mom used to send us outside to paint with water. seriously, we had buckets and brushes and painted the brick with water. it entertained us for hours because it would quickly dry and we'd have to hurry to try to cover a space. hang in there and way to laugh!
